Secure and reliable electricity supply is one of the key challenges of modern energy systems. Transmission system operators (TSOs) bear the main responsibility for system operation, ensuring the stable operation of the transmission grid. This training provides the essential basic knowledge of system operation and offers a comprehensive overview of core tasks such as congestion management, voltage control, frequency stabilization, and outage planning. In addition, a brief excursion into operational planning is included to illustrate the interfaces and coöperation between grid operations and planning.

This training is aimed at professionals and career starters who wish to develop a solid understanding of the fundamentals of system operation in order to better understand and master the complex requirements at transmission grid level.

Through practical content and well-founded theory, a solid understanding of the key aspects of grid operations is established.

Target groups:

Energy suppliers and grid operators: people who work with transmission system operators or need to understand their planning processes.

Career starters: new employees, trainees, or career changers in the energy industry.

Engineers and technicians: professionals preparing for roles in the energy supply sector.

Consultants and project managers: people who manage projects in the field of transmission system operators.

Content:

Introduction to grid operations

  • Importance and objectives of grid operations
  • Overview of the areas of responsibility

System security

  • Congestion management
  • Emergency measures

Voltage control

  • Fundamentals of voltage compliance

Tasks of operational planning

  • Support for grid operations
  • Long-term and short-term planning tasks

This training provides a solid introduction to system operation, which forms the backbone of transmission grid operation. It provides the essential basic knowledge of the core tasks of grid operations, such as system security, voltage control, frequency stabilization, and outage planning, which are essential for secure and stable grid operation.

A brief excursion into operational planning complements the content in order to illustrate the coöperation between grid operations and operational planning. With an experienced trainer and practical content, an ideal foundation is created for working in the energy industry.

Katalin Di Martino

With more than seven years of experience in operational planning at Amprion, Katalin Di Martino is a recognized expert in the fields of capacity calculation, congestion management, and redispatch. Through her close collaboration with grid operations, she has gained extensive knowledge of the control and stabilization of power grids, as well as the coördination of measures to ensure grid stability. In addition, she was involved for more than two years at TenneT in the development of the cost sharing process in the CORE capacity calculation region and has acquired in-depth knowledge of the development and implementation of European processes. She is currently working as a consultant at X‑impuls AG and, thanks to her expertise, plays a key role in the implementation of the CorNet platform as part of the CorNet program. With her experience in project management, as a product owner, and her extensive knowledge of the relevant data structures, she combines technical expertise with strategic implementation skills. Katalin Di Martino conveys the complex requirements of modern processes in a practical and easy-to-understand way.
